Always Originals - Never ReproductionsWB2GDD, your seller, 50 years a ham radio operator and a retired US Navy electronics technician and electronics officer, offers:
A VERY RARE EARLY Tuned Radio Frequency radio receiver in museum quality condition:
1923 Cutting & Washington Model 11A TRF radio receiver (tuned radio frequency with regeneration according to the Radio Museum's website).
The metal tag, on the underside of the lid, as seen in the second photograph above says:
Cutting & Washington Radio Corporation
New York Minneapolis
Licensed under Armstrong Patent
No. 1113149 Oct. 6, 1914
For Amateur and Experimental Use Only
Type 11-A No. 1587
(FYI - Edwin Howard Armstrong’s 1914 Wireless Receiving System, patent number 1,113,149, was commonly known as the Armstrong regenerative patent.)
This radio is in beautiful condition cosmetically - a lovely wooden cabinet with all of the knobs (no cracks) and a lovely patina on the brass plates of all of the knobs (I would strongly recommend that you not clean the patina away - as a matter of fact, I would strongly recommend that you not do any cleaning to any part of this radio set except maybe to blow the remaining dust out of the inside of the set).
There are some stray specks on the cabinet which look like light paint specks. There is some dust inside the cabinet and some dust and light dirt on the terminal post knobs on the back of the radio set. The interior electronics (coils, capacitors, sockets, etc.) are in beautiful condition with NO visible wear at all. All of the knobs turn as designed - the Secondary knob has a bit of stiffness in turning.
There are no tubes in the set (the radio uses 3 - UV201A tubes) which are easily obtained. That said, this radio is untested and its working condition is unknown.
At the inside bottom of the radio, believe it or not, is the final inspection tag (it's yellow and visible in the fourth photograph above). It has a final inspection date of 3/20/23 (making this set just a few months short of its 100th birthday). The tag is not attached to anything so it will move around as the radio is packed and shipped so you probably will have to tilt the radio cabinet to bring the tag into view.
The lid's hinge operates smoothly as designed with no slop. There is some spotting on the back of the cabinet near the right side as seen in the 9th photograph above. There is possibly some stains or spotting on the left side of the lid as seen in the 6th photograph above - but it may also just be the nature of the wood's grain (I can't be sure).
Sold with no guarantee either implied or explicit and sold with no returns.
This radio will be professionally packed in a double box and delivered by FEDEX Ground to United States of America addresses only. The radio weighs 18 pounds unpackaged.
