    Description

This pair of happiness and longevity dragon plates is Chinese antique porcelain. The plates are super thin; they are made of Gaoling earth of
    Jingdezhen
    ,
    China
, latest in the Ming Dynasty. The porcelain is light transparent. You hold a plate facing the sunlight, you can see your fingers through the plate. The plate was as thin as paper as it was made with Gaoling earth. The use of Gaoling earth in porcelain industry started in the Yuan Dynasty and used out in the Qing Dynasty.
The dragon and the characters of Happiness and Longevity are all hand painted. The style of the dragon is consistent with that in Ming Dynasty: brawny body, big upper lip and small lower lip, bristling hair, moustache rushed forward, and the 4 toes like a hawk etc. The 4 toes dragon were used by the civilian kilns, while royal kilns used 5 toe dragons as the 5 toe dragon represents the emperor.
The red glaze used on these plates is called under-glaze red, which was first used in the Ming Dynasty.
On the back of the plates are two Chinese characters “Yong Le” (Yong Le period of Ming Dynasty, 1403 – 1424).
Thought the above descriptions imply these plates meet all the characteristics of the porcelains of the Ming Dynasty; it doesn’t mean they are for sure the Ming’s products. They are possibly imitated in the Qing Dynasty. Even if they are Qing’s products; they still have great value and very worth collecting.
The dimensions: 5.5” rim diameter, 3.5” bottom diameter, 0.75” tall.
    It weighs 3/8 oz.
Both plates are in good condition; no chips or cracks.  International buyers need to pay the shipping fee.
