Description
Up for auction is a rare Buckwalter Supertone superheterodyne radio manufactured in 1925. The serial number of this radio is #3783. This is the last of four Supertones that I have restored over the years. This is a working superheterodyne radio that has been restored to near original condition using vintage parts.
The Buckwalter Supertone radios are unique in their use of an early form of "printed circuit" consisting of milled traces in the bakelite base filled with a conductive copper material.
The radio uses eight 01A type vacuum tubes (four good Supertone branded 01A type tubes are included - see below). A loop antenna and a power supply (such as the ARBE-III) are required to operate the radio. Those items are not included in this auction.
All components, including the walnut veneer case, are in good condition. A schematic diagram and several Supertone histories are included.
Also included in the auction are the following items/spare parts (see photos):
1 - Supertone 140 kc. I.F. transformer
1 - Remler type 630 "butterfly" variable capacitor
5 - Supertone branded 01A type tubes (4 are good, one has open filament)
2 - Loop tuning knobs
5 - Heterodyne tuning knobs
1 - Loop tuning dial
1 - Heterodyne tuning dial
1 - Centralab 25k ohm potentiometer
1 - working C. Brandes, Inc. headset
The radio dimensions are 31" x 11" x 11" and weight is 30 pounds before packaging. Shipping is via UPS ground and is limited to the continental U.S. Free local pickup is available.
